A Sperm donor is a man who provides his sperm with the intention that it be used in the fertility treatment of an anonymous woman so she can get pregnant. In most cases, the woman’s spouse has severe sperm challenges. The pregnancy produced by the use of donor sperm belongs to the couple as the sperm donor gives up all legal rights to any child produced from his sperm, and will not be the legal father, even though he is the biological father.

Our sperm donor program ensures that the donor is screened for sexually transmitted infections and such sperms are stored for 6 months after which the donor is rescreened. His physical characteristics are also checked including the level of education. The sperm donor is usually anonymous. However, a couple may decide to use a known donor after extensive counselling.

Donor sperm could be used for IUI, IVF and rarely for ICSI. In the majority of cases, frozen sperm is thawed before use.

In cases where the male’s semen analysis indicates abnormalities such as low sperm count, a single healthy-looking sperm is injected into the matured eggs to help achieve fertilization.

Kindly discuss with our IVF team if you think you are a candidate for donor sperm.
